With over 200,000 unique items spanning centuries, the existing site struggled with slow load times and poor discoverability. Customers couldn't easily find newspapers from a specific date or era. We built a custom date-based search engine that lets users find papers by exact date, decade, or historical event — turning an overwhelming archive into an intuitive browsing experience.
GIFTING EXPERIENCE
A large portion of revenue comes from gifts — birthday newspapers, anniversary editions, and historical keepsakes. The old checkout flow treated every purchase the same, with no personalisation options. We introduced gift wrapping, custom messages, and a "find by date" gift finder that walks users through selecting the perfect newspaper for any occasion.
The rebuilt store transformed Historic Newspapers from a dated archive browser into a modern gifting destination. Conversion rates increased significantly, average order value grew through personalisation upsells, and page load times dropped by over 60%.
